A modest extension that opens a listed cottage to its garden while preserving the intimacy, craft and character of the original building.

The existing cottage was full of character but constrained by compact rooms and limited views outward. The brief was to create a calmer, brighter home for two that could comfortably expand when family came to stay.

A new garden-facing room brings kitchen, dining and living together in one social space. The addition is clearly contemporary but carefully scaled, with the junction between old and new treated as a deliberate architectural threshold.

Because the building is listed, House Form worked closely with the conservation officer and planning authority. The result protects the historic fabric while making everyday life substantially easier and more connected to the landscape.
